Tomorrow, Friday, June 3, is National Donut Day. The first Friday in June is when donut shops large and small hand out donuts for free. The largest participating donut shops are Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme, both of whom will be giving out free donuts this year.
At Dunkin Donuts, you'll have to purchase a beverage to get the free donut (bottled cokes/sodas don't count). However, at Krispy Kreme, you will have your pick of donuts without any purchase. Be sure to check in with your favorite local or regional donut shop, too, to see if they have their own giveaway planned.
Though it sounds like a made up holiday, National Donut Day is actually a legitimate holiday. It was begun in Chicago in 1938 by The Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. So, if you didn't properly reflect on those who served our country on Memorial Day weekend, this is a chance to reflect on those women who served those who serve.
As with every dining deal, make sure you call ahead to check with your local donut shop before heading out. "At participating locations" means just that.
